NDP motion urges Conservatives to include infrastructure plan in upcoming budget
LONGUEUIL — New Democrat MPs Hoang Mai (Brossard—La Prairie), Sadia Groguhé (Saint-Lambert), Pierre Nantel (Longueuil—Pierre-Boucher) and Djaouida Sellah (Saint-Bruno—Saint-Hubert) support the NDP motion urging Conservatives to include a long term development and maintenance plan for infrastructure and public transit in the upcoming budget.
Statement on the New Champlain Bridge
Mr. Hoang Mai (Brossard—La Prairie, NDP): Mr. Speaker, the new Champlain Bridge will be the most important initiative in my riding and my region. It should include LRT. The mayors of Brossard, Longueuil, Boucherville, Saint-Bruno, Saint-Lambert and Montreal all agree. More importantly, the people are on board.
The choice of the public transit system is of provincial jurisdiction, but the federal government has a key role to play. Quebec and municipalities must have the necessary funds.
MONTREAL — New Democrats continued their Canadian tour with Housing critic, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, on Tuesday with a public consultation in Saint-Lambert. The tour will lay the foundation for the party’s policy on this important issue for the 2015 elections.
Question on the Senate
Mr. Hoang Mai (Brossard—La Prairie, NDP): Mr. Speaker, once again the Conservatives will continue to defend their privileged Senate friends, and we will continue to defend all Canadian taxpayers.
A few days ago, Conservative senators stated categorically that they would not make public reports on the excessive expenses of some senators in the so-called upper house. However, they have ultimately changed their minds to avoid disaster.
Mr. Hoang Mai (Brossard—La Prairie, NDP): Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise today to speak about Bill C-48, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act, the Excise Tax Act, the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, the First Nations Goods and Services Tax Act and related legislation.
The title is long, and the bill is voluminous. It is a necessary bill that makes amendments, and thus changes. The vast majority of the measures it contains have been in place for several years now. This bill makes them law.
