CAMPAIGN AGAINST TAX HAVENS: HOANG MAI PROUD OF SUCCESSFUL EVENT

OTTAWA — MP Hoang Mai (Brossard–La Prairie), NDP National Revenue Critic, is proud of the success of Tackle Tax Havens, a event organized in cooperation with Canadians for Tax Fairness. Held earlier this week in Ottawa, the well-attended session brought together MPs, senators and experts to kick off the national campaign to fight tax havens.

“If we are going to seriously tackle tax evasion, we have to raise awareness, talk openly about the problem and suggest concrete solutions,” said Mr. Mai. “This event helped to lay the groundwork for a long-term strategy to halt tax evasion and bring back the money owed to Canada.”

NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair and noted economist James S. Henry explained the ins and outs of tax havens. This was another of Mr. Mai’s initiatives to combat this scourge. Last spring, the Finance Committee passed his motion asking the government to study the issue.

“At a time hen the government is pinching pennies, it is essential to our economic health for all citizens and corporations to pay their fair share of taxes,” said Mr. Mai.
