An engineer’s revelations to the CBC are unnerving
MONTREAL — The latest revelations of an engineer to the CBC are enough to shake the public’s confidence concerning the safety of the Champlain Bridge. According to the NDP, Transport Minister Denis Lebel must reassure the population by publicizing any new evaluations.
“I am sure that the government is doing everything in its power to ensure the safety of the users of the Champlain Bridge, but the unknown brings on a whole host of concerns,” asserted the Deputy NDP critic for Transport. “The only way to have a clear conscience is by being transparent. It’s in the government’s best interest to reveal any and all information it receives concerning the state of the bridge.”
“The engineer’s allegations feed into our imaginations and the population has neither the tools nor the information to judge the safety of the Champlain Bridge,” added MP Hoang Mai (Brossard-La Prairie). “As Transport Minister, Denis Lebel must maintain transparency and ensure that the public has access to the most recent studies concerning the safety of this infrastructure.”
