BROSSARD — The New Democratic Party leadership vote took place last Saturday. Hoang Mai, MP for Brossard–La Prairie, says that with Thomas Mulcair now at the helm the NDP is a realistic alternative to the Conservative party, with the NDP now positioned to bring the progressives to power in 2015.

“I would like to congratulate Thomas Mulcair and his team for running a positive campaign, in keeping with Jack Layton’s legacy and New Democrat values,” said Mai. “Thomas is a smart man and a seasoned politician. Party members have entrusted him to lead the New Democrats, and I am confident that the Party is in good hands.”

More than 59,000 people voted in the NDP leadership race, with 4,600 gathered in Toronto for the convention—the largest in NDP history.

Hoang Mai is satisfied with the new NDP leader. “Thomas Mulcair knows what he’s doing in the House of Commons: he knows how to take on the Conservatives,” she said. “I am happy that all the leadership candidates are back. The NDP has a solid team.”

Now that the new NDP leader has been chosen, New Democrats will show Quebeckers that it is possible to unite progressives from across Canada. Our goal is to form the first NDP government and replace Stephen Harper’s Conservatives in 2015.
